Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I determine how many sq. ft. or sq. yds. my home needs?
  • Can I install my floor myself, or must Viking Floors install it?
  • How long before we can get new floors installed?
  • How long will my installation take?
  • How do I prepare for my new floor installation?
  • How long before we can walk on our new floors?

Please keep in mind all flooring has waste factors depending on coverage area size and shape. Below is a great first opinion; let Viking floors give you a professional second opinion. Free Estimates.

Carpet formula: Length x width = ________ add 8% = ________ divide by 9 = ________ sq. yds. (Carpet nap must run in the same direction, and carpet widths are 12' or 15' wide.)

Hardsurface formula: Length x width = ________ add 5% = ________ sq. ft. (Product packaging will also play a factor in the amount of material to be purchased.)

Either! We cater to both the do-it-yourselfer and customers who prefer professional installation.

This varies depending on supply and demand. During busier times, such as the holiday season, delivery can take up to 4 weeks, but on the average, 7-10 days. (Please keep in mind that product availability plays a large part in the time frame.)

The following info is just a guideline pending perfect working conditions.
Carpet: 1 day per 200 sq. yds. = 1800 sq. ft.
Hardsurface (wood, tile, etc.): 2 days per 400 sq. ft.

It is prudent that you move all breakables/small items (china, lamps, pictures, etc.), antiques, knick-knacks, electronics, pool tables, pianos, aquariums, safes, etc. Appliances- you must disconnect and reconnect all appliances, which are moved as a courtesy. Customers please understand that we are not plumbers, electricians, or appliance movers/repair men, and belongings are moved at your request and responsibility. The previous applies to commodes as well. Viking Floor never moves water heaters, softeners, etc. All closet floors must be cleaned out and waterbeds must be drained and disassembled. Please keep work area clear of all pets and children, as the installers work with very sharp tools. If there are any dust barriers you wish to install, please do so, but keep in mind that your home will still incur dust.

Carpet: Same day, as soon as install is completed.

Hardsurface:
  A. After float agent is used - 12 hours
  B. Flooring installed - 24 hrs. or next morning
  C. Grouting (C-tile) - 4-6 hrs.
